AAN Patient Safety Education Program
Course Description
This program is worth up to 4.0 SA CME credits.
The AAN Patient Safety Education Program is designed to help AAN members address the ABPN’s recently implemented, onetime requirement of diplomates to complete an approved patient safety course within three years prior to their board certification/recertification, or in their first C-Continuing Certification (CC) block. The ABPN requirement was implemented in 2016.
The course is designed with convenience in mind—it may be taken on a desktop or tablet, from virtually anywhere at your own time and pace, and completed in approximately 4 hours. Upon successful completion, the Patient Safety Education Course awards up to 4 self-assessment CME credits. The course is comprised of 10 separate elements. All elements include audio and visual reinforcements and an assessment. Some elements incorporate opportunities for reflection, strategy, and implementation planning. To receive CME credit, you must successfully complete a summative assessment and a course evaluation.

The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) has reviewed the Patient Safety Education Program and has approved this product as part of a comprehensive lifelong learning and self-assessment program, which is mandated by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) as a necessary component of Continuing Certification (CC).

Learning Objectives
As a result of this program the learner will:
Identify potential patient safety risks, and apply the strategies and methods outlined within this course to mitigate these risks and improve patient safety in their practice.

ACCREDITATION
The American Academy of Neurology Institute (AANI), a subsidiary of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
